Email supportWhere is Orbit after I open it?
In the menu bar at the top right of your screen: look for the dashed circle. Orbit has no Dock icon. Click it for your items, Settings… and Quit Orbit. Opening Orbit again from Finder or Spotlight also brings up Settings.
How do I allow Input Monitoring?
On first launch Orbit explains why it needs Input Monitoring, then macOS asks. In System Settings › Privacy & Security › Input Monitoring, turn on Orbit, and let macOS reopen it if it offers to. Until then, you can open your items from the menu-bar icon.
Input Monitoring is on, but the wheel doesn’t appear
macOS ties the permission to one exact copy of the app, so an older or reinstalled copy can show as on without working. To fix it:
- In System Settings › Privacy & Security › Input Monitoring, select Orbit and remove it with the – button.
- In Orbit’s Settings › General, click Allow Input Monitoring… and turn Orbit on again.
- If the wheel still doesn’t show, quit Orbit from its menu and open it again.
How do I change the keys?
In Settings › General, choose under “Hold to show the wheel”: ⌥ ⌘ (the default), ⌥, ⌃ ⌥ or ⌃ ⌘. Hold the keys on their own for a moment; when they’re part of another shortcut, like ⌥⌘D, Orbit stays out of the way.
How do I add apps and folders?
In Settings › Wheel, click Add App or Folder… and pick one or several. Drag rows to change the order: the first sits at the top of the wheel and the rest follow clockwise. To remove one, click the – next to it. About a dozen fit comfortably.
Can Orbit open when I log in?
Yes. Turn on Launch at login in Settings › General. It’s off until you switch it on. If macOS asks for approval, it opens System Settings › General › Login Items.
Why does the wheel look solid instead of glass?
Reduce Transparency is on, in System Settings › Accessibility › Display. Orbit respects it and draws a solid wheel. Turn it off to see the glass again. Liquid Glass needs macOS 26 or later; earlier versions show a frosted wheel.
Does Orbit see what I type?
No. It reads only the modifier keys (⌥ ⌘ ⌃ ⇧). For any other key it notices only that one was pressed, never which, and nothing is recorded or sent anywhere. Orbit has no network access. See the privacy policy.
How do I uninstall Orbit?
- Click Orbit’s menu-bar icon and choose Quit Orbit.
- Drag Orbit from Applications to the Trash.
- Optionally, remove Orbit from System Settings › Privacy & Security › Input Monitoring.
